Dawn Dye at Ganton Senior Communities Receives Activity Director Certification

Posted: 03.13.20

Dawn Dye, Life Enrichment Director and Event Marketing Manager for Ganton Senior Communities, earned her Activity Director Certification from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP).

The certification process includes two modular classes that require a year to complete and is based on a foundation of person-centered care through activities and engagement. Applicants also must obtain continuing education units and complete a national exam. The certification proves that Dye has met rigorous, federal education standards and requirements to offer a higher quality of life to individuals that she works with. It also provides her with best practices on how to communicate, engage and intervene with those living with dementia.

Dye also earned her Cognitive Stimulation Instructor Certification, certifying her to lead classes scientifically designed to avoid cognitive decline and possibly increase cognition levels.

While skilled nursing facilities are required to have an activity department directed by a qualified professional, assisted living facilities haven’t yet made that mandatory. This certainly sets Dye apart from many other activity directors in assisted living settings and allows her to improve the already robust activity program at Ganton. This includes adding a variety of new and creative activities to enhance socialization, stimulate cognition and generally enrich lives.

“Dawn has been an asset to our team from day one,” stated Scott Ganton, owner of Ganton Senior Communities. “Her level of dedication and heart for service when it comes to our residents and their families is truly a gift. She works extremely hard and we couldn’t be happier for her.”

About NCCAP: Activities are the foundation of care. Activity professionals are the pillars of this foundation and our Organization.
